Philharmonia Orchestra – I Was Glad: Parry Anniversary Concert

Print

When: Thursday 10th May

Where: Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre

Info: The Philharmonia Orchestra joins with Adrian Partington and the Gloucester Choral Society to commemorate the centenary year of the great British choral composer Hubert Parry.

The evening features Parry’s I was glad, originally written for the coronation of King Edward VII, Ode on the Nativity and Jerusalem.

It also celebrates Parry’s legacy through the works of two other great British composers: Parry’s former pupil, Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and Elgar’s Cello Concerto, who learnt much of his craft from studying articles Parry wrote for Grove’s Dictionary of Music.
