When: Sunday 9th December
Where: Queen Elizabeth Hall
Info: Under 13 Orchestra pay homage to one of America’s greatest composers through a rambunctious repertoire dedicated to the United States. The concert begins in dusty Havana, Cuba, where Gershwin holidayed amongst the rainbow avenues and palm trees (Cuban Overture). We hotfoot over to 1950s New York City: Bernstein’s playground and war zone for rivalling gangs, the Jets and the Sharks (Symphonic Dances from West Side Story).
The performance continues with Dvorak’s iconic Symphony No.9 (From the New World), a hymn to the musical styles of Native and African Americans. Your final call for the afternoon is nestled in the Hollywood Hills; lovers Sebastian and Mia are dancing their way through Hurwitz’s La La Land Concert Suite from the 2016 film.
