Barbican – Britten Sinfonia 2019-20
Event: Benjamin Grosvenor
When: 26 November 2019
Where: Barbican Centre
Info:
Pianist Benjamin Grosvenor and Britten Sinfonia Leader Thomas Gould join forces for a vividly contrasting programme of chamber music from Bach to the 21st century. Grosvenor has been described as ‘one in a million…several million’ by The Independent, and as ‘a keyboard visionary’ by the Süddeutsche Zeitung. He directs Britten Sinfonia in Bach and Mozart from the keyboard in this eclectic and illuminating programme of music spanning almost 300 years. Thomas Gould leads the orchestra in two Schubert-inspired works by the award-winning Bulgarian-born composer Dobrinka Tabakova, and also directs a new composition, supported by the William Alwyn Foundation, by one of the most exciting young British composers of his generation, Robin Haigh, who won a British Composer Award aged 24.
